The Queen of the Dragons is Gone

I just found out that one of my favorite fantasy authors died.  Anne McCaffrey also known as the "Dragon Lady", died November 21, 2011 at the age of 85. She is known for her Dragonriders of Pern novels which are a combination of fantasy and science fiction which were the first adult speculative fiction books I read as a child.  These books set me firmly on the path to reading and loving fantasy fiction.  Try Dragonflight the first in her Pern series. Her son Todd McCaffrey is also an author and the two collaborated on the New Adventures of Pern series starting with Dragon's Kin

There will never be another Anne McCaffrey but try one of the following tales about dragons and help me celebrate her work and her life.
Touched by Venom--Janine Cross
Dragon in Chains--Daniel Fox
Havemercy--Jaida Jones
Dragon Champion--E. E. Knight
Joust--Mercedes Lackey
His Majesty's Dragon--Naomi Novik
Dragon Prince--Melanie Rawn
The Dragons of Babel--Michael Swanwick
Dragon's: Worlds Afire--R. A. Salvatore
Bones of the Dragon--Margaret Weis

There are also a lot of great childrens and teen books about dragons.  Try one of the following great reads:

The Fire Within--Chris D'Lacey
Dragon's Milk--Susan Fletcher
Dragon Rider--Cornelia Funke
Wizard of Earthsea--Ursula Le Guin
Eragon--Christopher Paolini
Dealing with Dragons--Patricia Wrede
Dragon's Blood--Jane Yolen
The Last Dragon(graphic novel)--Jane Yolen and Rebecca Guay
